WASHINGTON, March 1, 2025 – Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors has stood in solidarity with Ukraine, adopting an emergency resolution in support of the Ukrainian people and the democratic values under assault. Today, U.S. Conference of Mayors President Columbus (OH) Mayor Andrew Ginther released the following statement:
“Ukraine, America’s ally, was invaded by a Russian government that is threatening its very existence. From the beginning of this conflict, the bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors has stood with the Ukrainian people and have engaged with their leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, and Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova. We commend their resolve and their leadership.
“Our bipartisan support is enduring. We all want a resolution to this war and that must provide lasting security for the Ukrainian people. The United States must make clear in words and action that it is on the side of Ukraine, democracy, and the sovereignty of free nations. We urge all leaders to work toward a lasting peace that preserves Ukraine’s freedom.”
